Review: Darkest Temptation

Darkest Temptation Darkest Temptation by Rachel Van Dyken
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict live,
In this series of standalones from The Dark Ones Saga, we meet Mason King of The Wolves, and Serenity a vampire. I really enjoyed this book I was pulled into the action straight away and had to read this in one go. At one time I only read paranormal romance, but I’ve given it a break for a few years except for select authors.
So I was really pleased to see this series from Rachel because I enjoy her contemporaries. I am so glad I decided to read this series. As it so easy to read everything flows effortlessly that it becomes a joy to read.
Without giving anything away we have two broken people who begin to heal through their bond of love. It was an enthralling journey Serenity and Mason go on to become who they are meant to be.
I can’t recommend this enough, if you love paranormal you’ll love this. If you enjoy romance give it a go.

Review: Lost Before You

Lost Before You Lost Before You by Brooke O'Brien
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict.live,
This is Book 2 in the series and is the story of Mason and Brea. They have been best friends at college for a couple of years, which has caused problems of jealousy with her boyfriend Kaleb.
What happens when best friends fall in love, it becomes a beautiful love story. Alas we know the path to true love never runs smooth.
This is book two in the Heart’s Compass series, the stories are interconnected. Mason is the younger brother of Callan from book one. They each can be read as standalone
I loved Mason and Brea they were adorable together. This is an enjoyable read, with best friends to lover’s troupe, and all angst that go with it. I think it would be best you read it yourself to find out what happens

Review: #1 Player

#1 Player #1 Player by T. Gephart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed on behalf of Book Addict.live,
This is a really enjoyable read, and I thought Ryan and Lila were cute together. Even though we met the pair in #1 Crush and the couple Eric and Tia from #1 Crush do appear in this book, but it can read as a standalone.
We they first met was instant attraction both deciding to enjoy a sexual relationship while Lila stays in LA for work and while living with Tia and Eric.
This is very hot sexy read, with the chemistry between the two off the charts. They grew close very quickly, and you could feel the love blossom between them.
If you enjoy a great romance where you can see love growing between the couple. I fell for Ryan myself so was very jealous of all the attention Lila received from him.
This is a funny enjoyable read from T. Gephart.

Kiss Me Crazy Kiss Me Crazy by Vanessa Vale
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a quick and crazy story of Avery coming back to Bridgewater County for her sister’s wedding. Dreading coming back because of her parents constant arguments and put downs.
Being stranded in Minnesota Airport had its good points as Avery bumps into Jackson and Dash both her high school crushes. Christmas comes in two’s in Bridgewater County.
Avery who is afraid of relationships slips out in the middle of the night. Jackson and Dash have no intention of letting getting away.
This is a quick and enjoyable story, with a festive feel to it. Sometimes all you want is something not too long, and puts a smile on your face at the end.

Review: A Little Too Late

A Little Too Late A Little Too Late by Staci Hart
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict. live,
What a delightful book this is, I really enjoyed reading about Hannah and Charlie. Charlie feels unhappy and lost since he has separated from his wife, after she cheated on him with his best friend.
All that changes when he hires Hannah to be his Au pair to look after the children.
He is mesmerised by her personality and the way she takes care of his children. Before long they are friends, and she starts bringing light back to his life after years of darkness. Eventually they fall in love, but life and love can never be that easy.
This is sweet and delightful contemporary romance, Hannah and Charlie were perfect together. Hannah comes from Holland, and the description of her baking had me drooling.
This is straight forward romance that flowed from the pages making very easy to read in one sitting. This is a feel good read, and I finished with smile on my face. Sometimes that is just what need when you have reading a lot of darker books.

Review: Web Of Lies

Web Of Lies Web Of Lies by J.G. Sumner
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed on behalf of Book Addict.live,
“Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.”
I don’t think I can put it any  better than Sir Walter Scott as this saying was popping about in my head while reading this book.
Web of Lies is a book where nothing is how it seems. At first we have a happily married couple with three children. Until a conspiracy is planned against the husband who naively trusts his wife and her brother as they conspire against him.
This is a great read I really enjoyed it as the machinations going on. I really felt sorry for Trent, as he is manipulated by all around him. This being the first book of a trilogy we think we know who is behind all the problems. Towards the end everyone seems to put all the surprises behind then and  carry on as normal.
We end on a cliffhanger, which I knew would happen, but I was enjoying the book so much I didn’t want it to end. I now have to wait for book two Cage of Deceit.

Review: Dirty Rich One Night Stand: a sexy standalone novel

Dirty Rich One Night Stand: a sexy standalone novel Dirty Rich One Night Stand: a sexy standalone novel by Lisa Renee Jones
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a pleasure it was to read this book.

When we meet Reese he is a hot shot Defense Attorney who is defending a man accused of Murder and Cat is reporting the case from the courtroom.
When Cat first meets Reese in the Coffee shop, and he pushes in front of her, Cat tells him off and calls him an Arrogant Asshole to his face. The fact that he was hot, and she recognised him from the courtroom did not deter her. From that point onwards Reece begins to notice her.
The only thing Cat wants from him for is A One and Done or a One Night Stand. As always there more going on than a straightforward love story. What starts out as just sex, becomes love and mutual respect for each other?
What I love about the female leads in Lisa’s books is that they are intelligent and able to stand on their own feet. Reese is not the Asshole we think he is at the beginning, and they fall hard for each other. They also have a murder to solve. All the ingredients for great story we have come to expect from Lisa Renee Jones. I happily give this enjoyable read with Murder, love, and hot sex all the ingredients mixed by a master chief adds up to 5 stars

TEASER #1 from Kiss Me at Last

With a smile lurking at the corners of his mouth, Sean had been waiting for an eruption for the last ten minutes.
It was day three of construction, and Melinda had looked far from chipper as she'd schlepped into the wine bar at eight in a slouchy gray sweater, faded jeans, and nondescript running shoes. Her eyes were bleary, and she cradled her coffee concoction like it was the crown jewel in the queen's tiara. She'd winced every time his hammer drove home a nail.
Sean grinned. Hangover, he supposed, and he pounded a few extra nails for good measure as she scuttled into her office. That ought to fix her little red wagon, Miss High and Mighty and her sexy British accent. Not that he'd noticed.
He glanced toward her office door, and there was Melinda, staring at him with a stony gaze through half-slitted eyes.
"Good morning, Ms. York," Sean said in his perkiest voice. "Sun's shining, and it's beautiful out." He fiddled with the chuck on the drill and idly revved it a few times for some bonus noise.
"Is there anything quiet you can do for a while?" Melinda said, her tone was pained.
"Not feeling well?"
"I'm fine. I have some phone calls to make to wine distributors and a little peace and quiet would be divine."
"Go back to your coffee shop for those calls. Unless you want me to take a break already? That will slow me down."
Melinda glared. "I'm trying to get some work done, too."
"Well, ma'am. This is a construction zone, so there's going to be noise. We're not slapping on some paint and hanging a few light fixtures. We're adding beams, ripping out floors. What exactly were you expecting? Should I bring a bowl of potpourri or something?"
"That might help." Her tone was drenched in syrup. "Or do you have a silencer for that drill?"

TEASER #2 from Kiss Me, Trouble

As they walked side by side out of the restaurant, a noisy group of women jostled by them. Alix scooted to one side to avoid a passerby whose nose was buried in her phone. She staggered into a towering potted palm.
The palm fronds swayed ominously, and Alix’s arms flailed.
“Easy there. Don’t take out that tree.” Cole twined an arm around her waist and pulled her close. A herd of butterflies stampeded through her belly. His touch was familiar, but it dazzled her senses as if it was the first time they’d touched.
“I’m not usually so wobbly on my feet.” Alix smiled up at Cole and didn’t move.
Cole blinked and broke into a lopsided grin. “You were pushed.”
“Like Humpty Dumpty? Did she fall or was she pushed?” Alix wrinkled her nose.
“It was a conspiracy.” Cole squeezed her waist and winked.
“Did you pay them to bump me into your arms?” She inched one hip closer to his body.
“That would have been well played.” Cole’s voice lowered, but she could have heard him whisper, for the rest of the world had grown distant. There were no glasses clinking nor bar patrons buzzing with laughter.
“And risky.” Alix let her hands creep up his chest until she could feel the solid thud of his heart. It was strong. It was beating as fast as hers. Staccato.
“I work the angles and the gray areas.”
“But, I’m the straight arrow.”
“Opposites still attract?” Cole’s mouth inched closer, and his scent filled her senses. He was exotic like sandalwood but grounded like cedar. He was heaven.

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict live,
WOW what a beautiful story this is, most of the book takes place in Spain. Leslie conjures the spirit of Spanish locations so well I could imagine myself walking beside them. I fallen in love with Trent who has loved Dani he best friend’s older sister, who has forever has been out of his reach.
This first half of the book seemed slow until you realise its building the emotion between Dani and Trent. There is a lot of emotion anger, guilt and love. Leslie has truly a heartfelt wonderful story, when the only thing that heal both Dani and Trent is their love for each other
“Welcome home soldier,” “This is our base and now we can both fly”
I not saying more because I want you to enjoy the story the way I did.

♥ STORM ♥
I have been looking forward to Loving Storm as soon as it was announced. The first book Storm has been one of my favourites since it was released. So before reading this I listened to the Audiobook to refresh my memory. This almost carries on from the first one, and it was wonderful edition to the series. Evie is very highly strung and it was cute to see how Storm could calm with his presence.
THIS COUPLE IS SO CUTE
I loved it, it was the after that intense time when you first get together. This was learning about each other and tackling the logistics of making a relationship work. I loved the wider family and their get togethers and Storm’s Gran was lovely. I’m not going to wax lyrical about this book. If you enjoyed Storm, you are going to love this. If you haven’t read Storm why not? Some of Ashes and Ember have been some of my all-time favourites, and I hope we are going to get the Audio edition so I can listen to it as well. This was the icing on the top of a chocolate cake for me as it really finishes Storm and Evie’s story

Review: Fox's Awakening

Fox's Awakening Fox's Awakening by F.G. Adams
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict Live,
Wow what a book filled with plenty of action. Fox’s Awakening is a paranormal love story and part of a trilogy. FBI agent Fox Brenton is in the first book Aldin’s Wish. This is book two Fox’s story, each book tells the story of one couple and there is no cliffhanger, but the same story arc runs through the trilogy.
Fox is one of the paranormal group’s human contact. As an FBI agent he has contacts among the humans so is a useful person to have a round. I am not going into the story I will let you enjoy yourself. All I will say is I am really enjoying this trilogy and as more unfolds the action heats up and the story gets better.
I pleased this a trilogy as we get a bigger picture but also resolution in three books. If you enjoy stories of immortal Gods and Goddesses as well vampires and shifters this has it all. I can’t wait for Marcus’s story we have had a glimpse of Marcus’s woman, but you have to read this to find out.

Review: From This Moment

From This Moment From This Moment by Melanie Harlow
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict live,
This was a must read for me as soon as I saw the blurb, but I was wrong this was so much more. I had to read this without any distractions from start to finish. I will say get your tissues handy before you start to read.
This book started with a slightly different premise, Hannah a widow with her young daughter Abby still trying to recover from her husband dying from a heart attack in his thirties while jogging. Some time has passed and she is working and trying to keep brave face on. Then Wes her dead husband’s identical twin comes home to take over his father’s practice.
When Hannah first starts to feel desire for Wes she puts it down to missing Drew and that her body is confused. Wes on the other hand has always loved Hannah, when he first met her he was too shy to say anything, and after weeks trying get courage up. Drew met her once and swept her of feet. Drew was always the outgoing twin.
We watch them proceeding with caution but before long they enjoy spending time together. Hannah begins to realise that she loves Wes. He was a perfect man for her and even liked it a little rougher in the bedroom. I really loved his character he was the perfect man always putting Hannah and Abby first.
There is a lot of raw emotions in this book with a family trying to cope after a great loss that effects them all. I was emotionally raw after reading this gripping but emotionally draining romance. I loved it all even if I was blubbering mess. Melanie Harlow has outdone herself with this book.

Filthy Player Filthy Player by Stacey Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reviewed on Behalf of Book Addict.live,
I do love sports romances especially with a six feet four inches of muscle ripped quarterback called Beaux.
If you read Dirty Player this is Shannon’s little brother Beaux who meets Paige who  works as a waitress in the Bar and grill next to the Stadium. Paige has had bad luck with men, so when he asks her for a date she shoots him down. Then after overhearing his conversation she throws an ice bucket over his head.
Beaux really likes Paige and wants to show her who he really is. When things begins to heat up between them and the sex scenes are hot and sexy. What was better was seeing the love and trust grow between them. Beaux personality really shines through when he is with Paige.
I really enjoyed this romance, and I’m going to own up to putting Beaux on my Book Boyfriend list. I really enjoyed this romance it has plenty going on and when it finished I had a big smile on face waiting for the next in the Series. This is a standalone set in the same world as Shannon and Oliver’s book Dirty Player.

Review: Unloved

Unloved Unloved by Katy Regnery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Reviewed on behalf of Book Addict live,
What a heartbreaking, but beautiful love story this book is. This is the story of Brynn whose fiancee was shot a pop concert two years before. Out of desperation Brynn decides to take his mobile phone to his favourite mountain and bury his phone and say a real goodbye.
We have Cassidy whose father had been sent to prison for rape and murder. He lives of the grid in his grandfather’s house where he has lived since his father’s arrest. His mother brought him with her when he was still a child. He has lived on his own for years, his promised his mother he would never hurt anyone so he kept to his self.
One day to feel part of the human race his walks up the mountain out of everyone’s sight. Until he hears screaming and comes upon this creep stabbing a woman he throws the man of her and he sees Brynn. He takes her home and treats her stab wounds and looks after her. They can’t help falling in love. Cassidy knows nothing can be permanent. You can help but fall in love with Cassidy and deep down you know he won’t hurt Brynn.
This has dark themes, but you can feel the emotion between them. Cassidy knows he can’t keep her because of what runs in his veins and the promise he made to mother and grandfather. Katy always knows how to pull me into a story and plays on my emotions like a piano. There is always plenty of drama and angst before we get the hea. This is a standalone with no cliffhangers. This story makes you think about all the victims of violent crime.
If you like to read something different, then you would love this. I read this in one seating, but remained on my mind much longer.

I knew when I started reading I was in for a supernatural journey, but all I can say at the moment is Wow. I had to read it in one go which meant I had read through the night. I will do my best to give a spoiler free review.
Things get interesting when they arrive at Altmover Manor in Maine and things start to get strange, First meeting Remi and we then get an inkling that Lexie has some supernatural juju. Will is an architect and wants to take the house back to its original state. Lexi starts going through the house looking at old photos and drawings to help him. Instead she encounters the ghost Marcus Blackwell.
Oh I thought a house haunted and a mystery to solve. Little did I know that was just the beginning? I loved this book, there is so much happening including a trip New Orleans and Voodoo. That’s all I am going to say and I off to start the authors blacklist, and the prequel to the book about Magnus Blackwell’s life.
